RODENTS

Rodents, the largest group of mammals, include species such as rats, mice, and their relatives. Known for their ever-growing incisors and the absence of canine teeth, they rely on constant gnawing to maintain their dental health. Among the most common types found in human environments are the Bandicoot, the Roof Rat, and the House Mouse.

Where Do They Nest and Feed?

Each rodent species has unique nesting habits and behaviors influenced by its environment.

  • Bandicoots prefer to burrow in soil, often making their nests in basements and lower levels of buildings. These nocturnal rodents are decent climbers and strong swimmers, allowing them to navigate various terrains.
  • Roof Rats are expert climbers and typically build their nests in the upper sections of buildings or outdoors in trees. Unlike other rodents, they rarely dig burrows in the ground and are most active after dark.
  • House Mice adapt easily and can settle in any part of a building, usually staying close to food sources. Their movement is generally limited to a 50-foot radius from their nest, and they are primarily nocturnal.
