Termite

Termites, commonly known as white ants, are destructive pests that thrive in various environments. In India, they are primarily categorized into three main types: Drywood Termites, Subterranean Termites, and Formosan Termites.

  • Drywood Termites infest dry, untreated wood and do not require contact with soil to survive. They are often found in furniture, wooden structures, and doors.
  • Subterranean Termites are the most widespread and destructive, living in underground colonies and building mud tubes to access above-ground food sources like wooden foundations and walls.
  • Formosan Termites are an aggressive species known for their large colonies and rapid wood consumption. They build nests both in the soil and within wooden structures, making them highly difficult to control.

Each type poses significant risks to homes and buildings, making early detection and treatment crucial.

Treatment Options

Termite treatment methods vary depending on the stage of the property. There are two primary approaches:

  • Pre-Construction Treatment – Preventive measures applied during the building phase to create a chemical barrier, protecting the structure from future infestations.
  • Post-Construction Treatment – Targeted solutions for existing buildings, including chemical treatments, baiting systems, and direct wood injections to eliminate termite colonies.
  • Soil Treatment – Applying termiticides to the soil around the foundation to prevent termites from entering the structure. This method is commonly used for both pre and post-construction protection.
  • Wood Treatment – Treating wooden surfaces with anti-termite chemicals or borate-based solutions to protect furniture, doors, and structural wood from infestation.
